Microtubule self-repair

چکیده
The stochastic switching between microtubule growth and shrinkage is a fascinating unique process in the regulation of cytoskeleton. To understand it, almost all attention has been focused on ends. However, recent research revived idea that tubulin dimers can also be exchanged protofilaments along shaft, thus repairing protecting it from disassembly. Here, we review describing this phenomenon, mechanisms regulating removal insertion dimers, as well potential implications for key functions network, such intracellular transport cell polarization.

Rapid Microtubule Self-Assembly Kinetics
Microtubule assembly is vital for many fundamental cellular processes. Current models for microtubule assembly kinetics assume that the subunit dissociation rate from a microtubule tip is independent of free subunit concentration. Total-Internal-Reflection-Fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy experiments and data from a laser tweezers assay that measures in vitro microtubule assembly with nanometer r...
متن کاملMicrotubule self-organization is gravity-dependent.
Although weightlessness is known to affect living cells, the manner by which this occurs is unknown. Some reaction-diffusion processes have been theoretically predicted as being gravity-dependent. Microtubules, a major constituent of the cellular cytoskeleton, self-organize in vitro by way of reaction-diffusion processes. To investigate how self-organization depends on gravity, microtubules wer...
متن کاملSelf-Reduction Rate of a Microtubule
We formulate and study a quantum field theory of a microtubule, a basic element of living cells. Following the quantum theory of consciousness by Hameroff and Penrose, we let the system to reduce to one of the classical states without measurement if certain conditions are satisfied(self-reductions), and calculate the self-reduction time τN (the mean interval between two successive self-reductio...
متن کاملDisruption of Microtubule Integrity Initiates Mitosis during CNS Repair
Mechanisms of CNS repair have vital medical implications. We show that traumatic injury to the ventral midline of the embryonic Drosophila CNS activates cell divisions to replace lost cells. A pilot screen analyzing transcriptomes of single cells during repair pointed to downregulation of the microtubule-stabilizing GTPase mitochondrial Rho (Miro) and upregulation of the Jun transcription facto...
متن کاملUnifying Self- and Other-Repair
We discuss similarities between midutterance self-correction, which is often seen as a phenomenon that lies outside the scope of theories of dialogue meaning, and other discourse phenomena, and argue that an approach that captures these similarities is desirable. We then provide a sketch of such an approach, using Ginzburg’s KoS formalism, and discuss the implications of including ‘sub-utteranc...
